Welcome to Drivers' Educational School! We have been teaching driving in the state of Alaska for 41 years and counting. We have taught generations of families how to drive, and the skills they learn with us last a lifetime. Our goal is to improve the driving community by teaching the safest driving techniques.
Programs and Classes
How and What to Adjust in the Vehicle Safety Technology and How it Saves Lives How to use ABS properly How to Share the Road Safely Communicating Effectively on the Road Right-of-Way Rules and Laws Impaired Driving: Distraction, Drowsiness, Emotion, and Substances Adverse Driving Conditions and Driving Emergencies. Class is held twice a month on Friday or Saturday and goes from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. There are a few breaks and a lunch break around noon. Students are welcome to bring lunch and stay in the classroom or leave the premises during the break. At the end of class each attendee will receive a certificate of completion, and any DMV or Court Ordered students will have their information sent to the DMV.
Behind the wheel training occurs over 4 days for 2 hours each day in one of our dual controlled vehicles. All of our instructors have DMV, state, and AAA certifications, and trained to instruct students of any experience level. The instructor will pick up and drop off the student anywhere within the Anchorage and Eagle River area. Our instruction vehicles are dual controlled 2018 Ford Escapes with All Wheel Drive, Anti-lock Braking Systems, Traction Control, and season appropriate tires.
Drivers' Educational School is authorized by the DMV to administer the driving test. In our 41 years of business we have given approximately 100,000 road tests. The test can be given in a vehicle provided by the tester or one of our company vehicles. Our road tests are available by appointment or walk-in during testing hours. We know that taking the test can be nerve racking! Our staff will do their best to answer any questions before or after the test and maintain a calm testing environment. We encourage all testers to take the test only when they are fully ready to do so.
Winter Driving Environment Driving in the Dark Roadway Surface and Traction issues Understeer and Oversteer Skid Control and Recovery Driving Defensively to Avoid Collision and Roadside Emergencies. Behind the wheel training occurs over 2 days for 1.5 hours each day in one of our dual controlled vehicles. All of our instructors are DMV and state certified, and trained to instruct students of any experience level. The instructor will pick up and drop off the student anywhere within the Anchorage and Eagle River area. Our instruction vehicles are dual controlled 2018 Ford Escapes with All Wheel Drive, Anti-lock Braking Systems, Traction Control, and studded winter tires. Winter Driving instruction is strictly one on one between the student and instructor and covers: Starting/Stopping on icy roads Adjusting Speed and Space for hazardous road conditions Skid Control and Recovery techniques Low visibility conditions and Proper use of brakes
