For those who are minors and are a part of a homeschool program or belong to a private group, we can offer a private 38-hour driver's education course. In order to provide a private class, we require the group to have a minimum of six (6) students with deposits submitted in order to confirm classroom dates. Our scheduling for the homeschool and private group students is very flexible as we are able to provide the course during the week or on whichever days the group will need as long as it does not conflict with any of our other scheduled driver's education classes. Group Requirements - The group must have a minimum of six (6) students with deposits submitted to confirm classroom dates. - Students within the group are required to be at least 14 years and 9 months of age. However, to complete the 8 hours of behind the wheel driving, students must be at least 15 years of age. For those students who do not yet meet the age requirement for the driving portion, Road Scholars Institute of Driving - Driving School, Driving Academy will make the proper arrangements to postpone and reschedule for those students. - In order to schedule a private class, please give our office a call at 225-281-5202 or you can contact us by emailing our help desk prior to submitting an online deposit. Classroom Overview During our four-day class lecture, we will provide your child with important information which may include, but is not limited to, the following traffic laws and regulations, signs, traffic lights, and markings, correct and safe driving procedures, emergencies, driving hazards including weather conditions, alcohol, drug abuse, motorcycle safety, interstate driving, and driving offenses. We will provide worksheets to help with the understanding of each chapter along with a comprehensive final exam on the last day of class. The final exam requires a passing score of at least 80%. The success of each student’s understanding is important to us as it creates the foundation to being a safe driver. Driving is a privilege which should be taken very seriously so we encourage all students to ask as many questions needed to fully understand any and all material. If your child requires any accommodations during the classroom or for the behind the wheel practice, please let one of our team members know. Behind-the-Wheel Overview Once a student has successfully completed his or her class along with successfully passing the final exam, the student will be contacted by one of our driving instructors to schedule the driving sessions. Each student will be trained using a certified, licensed and insured vehicle with a dual-brake system. Students are scheduled in (2) four-hour time slots on different days and may be picked up by the instructor at their home, school, or workplace within a 10-mile radius from our office. During the scheduling, a date and time, along with the pickup/drop off location will be scheduled in accordance to a mutually convenient time for the instructor and parents/students. After completion of the behind-the-wheel portion, we will provide a sealed envelope that will be required by the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles for your child to obtain his or her learner's permit or driver's license. Inside this sealed envelope, there will be a yellow “certificate of completion” certificate. This certificate is your copy for record keeping purposes. There are some insurance companies that may offer a discount to your child for completing a Louisiana’s driver’s education course and may request to see this certificate. Please keep in mind that if this certificate is misplaced or lost that our office will charge a $20.00 replacement fee which can only be requested online from our website by visiting our "certificate replacement" page. Lastly, at the end of the behind-the-wheel practice, our driving instructor will provide an assessment packet detailing your child’s driving performance on various driving aspects. This assessment is used as an indicator on which areas of improvement may need special attention. Along with this assessment you will be provided tips to help with your child’s driving. Remember, you are the most important influence to your child’s safe driving habits.

This means that the TIP (temporary instructional permit) MUST be in possession and has to be presented to the driving school on the first day of class. Any persons who fails to obtain the temporary instructional permit will not be allowed to sit in on any course regardless of submitting a deposit or paying the full course amount. ­The temporary instructional permit does not allow for any person to drive in a vehicle with a licensed driver. ­This permit is only for the use of being able to drive with a licensed driving instructor while attending a driver’s educational course.

This course consists of two (4) hour sessions of behind-the-wheel training. It is designed for students that have completed the classroom portion of the 38 hour course or the 14 hour course with a certified driving school. Any person wanting to take the 8 hour behind-the-wheel course must furnish an original copy of the students 30 or 6-hour classroom certificate. No student can enroll and schedule the sessions without having this certificate. The minimum age requirement for behind the wheel training is 15 years of age.
