Required for students under age 18, our Classroom Drivers Education course offers students quality training for safe driving techniques in a unique classroom setting at our office in Grass Valley, California. Our course prepares students to pass the DMV written examination. Our instructor brings over 30 years experience to the table working with both teen and adult students. Our classroom course takes four days to complete (usually, two consecutive weekends). Upon completion of the course, students will be issued a Certificate of Completion. This certificate enables the student(must be at least 15 1/2) to take the written examination at DMV. Once a student passes the written exam they are issued an Instruction Permit. At the first lesson behind-the-wheel the instructor signs and dates the permit activating it for the student to legally practice with a licensed driver 25 years and older.

Student's under the age of 18 years who would like to obtain a California Driver's License after turning 16 must first take and complete a course in Driver Education. Grass Valley Driving School offers either the in- classroom drivers ed or the online course. There are some advantages to both situations. For the classroom setting the opportunity to have a live instructor whose knowledge and experience assists in the learning experience is invaluable. However, we understand that many students have demanding schedules these days. The online course experience can be better suited to fit the needs of these students.

A student under 17 1/2 years of age, issued an Instruction Permit by the California DMV must complete the required 6 hours of Behind the Wheel Training. Our dedicated, experienced, and professional instructor, Stuart Thorsby has over 30 years of experience and has worked with teen and adult students training them in the best driving techniques available. Behind the Wheel Training is offered to students in the Grass Valley, Penn Valley, and Nevada City region of the California foothills. Behind the Wheel Training is offered in 3 two-hour sessions. Training is done in an automatic Toyota Corolla equipped with a dual brake. Each session is designed to offer students practical experience in a variety of different driving techniques. All elements of the DMV driving exam and more are covered in the sessions. Upon completing the 3 sessions, students will be issued a Certificate of Completion required by the DMV to take a drivers test for students under the age of 18. Students are picked up and dropped off by the instructor at a pre-arranged location determined at the time of scheduling to fit the needs of the school and student. If the student cancels an appointment without 24 hours notice or the instructor arrives and the student does not have their permit there will be a $50 charge.

Our course provides students with an effective overview of safe driving techniques, lawful practices, and a foundational understanding of what it means to be a safe, wise, and defensive driver. The California Department of Motor Vehicles requires that all new drivers under the age of 18 must complete a course in drivers classroom education prior to receiving their Instructional Permit. At the last class of Drivers Ed the student is scheduled for the first behind the wheel appointment. The student is required to make an appointment for the written test to get their instructional permit.
